How Do I Know If My Kid is Tagging?

One of the most common questions we get is how to tell if your kid is a Tagger. Below we provide some very common things to look for to help you determine if your child might be involved in graffiti. Of course, there is no substitution for communicating with your children. If you suspect your child of being involved in graffiti, talk to them. If you need further resources or assistance, please feel free to contact us at info@magtfdenver.org
GRAFFITI ON PERSONAL BELONGINGS - This is common among almost every Tagger. Look at their backpacks, school books, even their shoes. Taggers have an addiction-like tendency to write on everything.

And yes, they may even tag their own cars..
SKETCH BOOKS, a.k.a. "BLACK BOOKS" - Taggers almost always possess sketch books in which they practice their lettering and pre-plan their "pieces" or "productions" that will eventually end up on a wall somewhere.

GRAFFITI PARAPHERNALIA - From graffiti tools to stickers to magazines, Taggers often have other things in their possession that tell you if they are involved in graffiti. (See also our "How Do They Do It?" page for more examples of graffiti tools)

Graffiti Stickers, Magnets and Stencils are also very popular
Graffiti
related books, videos, magazines, even video games can be found in everyday
stores or online through specialty vendors and websites.
If your child
is buying anything online, as a parent you should be aware of what they are
buying and the websites they visit.
PHOTOGRAPHS - Taggers often return to the scene of their criminal acts to document their work.
